Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun firm enforcement against owners of 1,095 properties whose titles were recently revoked across Asokoro, Maitama, Garki and Wuse.
The clampdown, was announced on Friday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister.
Mr Lere said the clampdown follows months of repeated warnings and the expiration of a final 14-day grace period earlier in the week.
According to Olayinka, the affected property owners failed to settle key statutory payments, including Ground Rent, Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) charges, penalty and violation fees, as well as land use conversion fees.
“Despite public notices issued between May and November—published in newspapers, online platforms and broadcast outlets—many defaulters did not respond.
“Based on the foregoing, the general public, particularly holders of property in the FCT, are hereby notified that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, has approved the commencement of enforcement actions on 1,095 properties in the territory for defaulting in various payments,” Olayinka stated.
He added that the infractions breached Section 28, Subsections 5(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, as well as the terms tied to the respective Rights of Occupancy.
With the grace period officially closed, Olayinka revealed that officials will now move on 835 properties defaulting on Ground Rent and 260 others owing Violation and Land Use Conversion fees.
The enforcement drive marks one of the largest property compliance actions undertaken by the FCTA in recent years, signaling what officials describe as a renewed push for order and accountability in Abuja’s high-end districts.
