2020: My worst year in showbiz – King Rajah

King Rajah

By AUSTIN FAIR-NWAULU, Lagos –

He may not rely on album sales, big time shows or product endorsements as a ‘star’ to eke a living as a fulltime artiste. But he is surviving and taking good care of himself, family and other challenges.  He has no other business or profession other than show business, as a singer, performer, songwriter, etc.

But the year 2020 has made King Rajah [as he is popularly known] to think twice. Henceforth, he must combine to survive. ‘’That is the sense any right thinking man must have derived from ‘Covid 19’ and ‘#EndSARS’,’’ he cut in. And continued, ‘’both of them simply brought untold hardship to man.’’

He opens up; ‘’I have been in entertainment business for the past 25 years and that’s all I know. Although I’m not one of the world’s best in terms of fame and wealth, I have not been starving being an entertainer. However, this year and its tragedies is the worst for everybody in the business.

‘’You will recall that just as we were trying to kick-start the year, the deadly Coronavirus surfaced and eclipsed everywhere. We in showbiz were the hardest hit because we’re still under lockdown till date. Then came #EndSARS, the gory story of which we all know and which is still very much around with us.’’

‘’Now tell me, should I still clutch onto showbiz – and die of hunger with my family? The answer is no, I just have to take a walk till further notice.
