The report titled “Getting Things Done: Strategies for Policy and Program Implementation in Nigeria” was presented to the President by Senior Executive Course 43 (2021) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Plateau State .
On receiving the report, the President assured course participants that it would be treated with the seriousness and urgency it deserves.
“As such, I ask MDAs and the National Steering Committee on Vision 2050 to review the report, with a view to diligently reviewing the recommendations presented and integrating them into the overall execution strategy.” , did he declare.
Buhari said his administration has invested great efforts in building good governance and made huge strides in achieving the desired results.
“This report becomes important and timely in our quest to improve service delivery to our citizens,” he added.
Regarding the importance of NIPSS and its participants in the course, he noted that it was always a pleasure to receive their comments on important issues of great concern to the government and the nation.
“No nation will progress without paying close attention to how policies are formulated and implemented, as it is often difficult to know how to best ensure effective policy design and implementation.
“The gaps between policy design and program implementation must be bridged for our country to continue to make meaningful progress.
This is why I tasked the participants of the Senior Management Course 43, 2021 to work on the theme: “Getting things done: Strategies for the implementation of policies and programs in Nigeria”, he declared.
While alluding to the report and presentation of course 43 participants, Mr. Buhari noted that their research had drawn attention to his administration’s efforts in implementing policies and programs, as well as the challenges encountered.
He acknowledged that the report also generated constructive and compelling recommendations with adequate implementation strategies.
“The structure, content and mode of presentation of this report are testament to the great commitment and hard work that went into it.
“This confirms for me and for our administration the consistency and reliability of the National Institute in carrying out very critical and sensitive missions of national importance.
“While I congratulate the participants for justifying the trust by nominating you for this course, I would like to congratulate the National Institute for once again living up to expectations.
“Let me express my satisfaction at the level of knowledge and discipline you have openly demonstrated about our country and our challenges,” he said.
Mr. Buhari urged course participants, mostly from senior executives of federal and state institutions, to implement everything they have learned in their various institutions.
In his remarks at the presidential session, NIPSS Acting Director General, Chukwuemeka Udaya told the president that the 85 participants of the 2021 Senior Course 43 were divided into seven groups to question the topic of the study.
” The seven groups received lectures and presentations from top-notch resource persons, made study tours to interact and collect data on the topic to be studied from experts, practitioners in the various public and private sectors worldwide. They also engage in rigorous research and intellectual debate, ” he said.
