Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed in an early morning fire outbreak on Wednesday which razed some shops at the popular Apongbon Under Bridge Market in Lagos.
The cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown but the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the incident.
The South West coordinator of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the bridge where the market is located has been physically damaged.
Mr. Farunloye noted that the shops consumed by the fire outbreak were mostly selling baking materials
He noted that Federal Ministry of Works have been called upon to close the bridge and carry out integrity tests to determine the safety of the bridge for further usage”.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the fire was still raging. Some vehicles parked under the bridge were also gutted by the fire which has destroyed a large section of the bridge.
Officials of the Federal and Lagos State Fire Service are currently at the market trying to put out the fire.
