A former Cross River State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ntufam Ekpo Okon has clinched the party’s tickets as Cross River South Senatorial candidate for the 2023 general election.
Announcing the results of the primary election, held at Vanecia Arena in Calabar, The Returning Officer, Festus Ebude, said Ekpo scored 186 votes to beat his only rival Joe Edet who scored 47 votes.
In his remarks, Ekpo Okon, who is also a former Commissioner for Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), commended the party’s delegates who voted for him, saying “for us , it is a healthy competition, this is the essence of democracy”
“For us PDP, we are determined to strengthen Internal democracy in our party.
According to him, “we will continue to work together and give our people better representation.
Also speaking, Joe Edet, the former Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Liyel Imoke, congratulated the winer, saying “it is a win win for our party”.
“Ekpo is my elder brother, he has proven that he is and old war horse, I had to push him beyond limit but is all about what the people want at the moment”
