
Senate President Ahmed Lawan

The President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, has felicitated the Nigerian child on the occasion of Children’s Day.
Senator Lawan noted that May 27 was set aside to draw attention to the rights and plights of children in Nigeria
The Senate President in statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Ola Awoniyi, said the nation must continue to do more to prepare its young ones for a better future.
Lawan decried the large number of out- of-school children in the country and called for action by governments at all levels ,to change the situation.
According to him, high number of children without formal education.has grave consequences for any country .
He urged the relevant authorities at the various levels ,and the society at large to pay close attention to the needs of children.
According to him, government must make prompt and proactive policy interventions that will provide children good healthcare,and wider access to quality education to secure their future.
Lawan urged state governments in the s to domesticate and implement the Child’s Rights Act of 2003.
He assured Nigerian children that the National Assembly would continue to be there for them by providing legislative interventions to help them actualise their potential.
The senate president wished them a happy celebration.
