The Organising Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) Nasarawa State chapter, Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim Gwandu, said the ongoing fuel scarcity during this yuletide season has affected transportation system.
Gwandu stated this on Saturday at Sani Abacha Motor Terminal Maraba, in Karu LG, Nasarawa State, when speaking with journalists.
He said the responses of commuters is very low because of the high price of fuel that increase the cost of transportation fare as well as economic hardship.
Gwandu stated that the situation is getting worse, according to him, a Litre of fuel sold for N270, in Abuja, and its sold for N350 outside Abuja, stressing that the cost of fuel is creating difficulties both for transportation and commuters.
In the same vein, the chairman of Carot and Allied Product Dealers Association, Taa’l Community Modern Market, Maraba Alh. Mustapha Abdullahi said, Christmas season is period of celebration that comes with good and challenges.
Mustapha disclosed that, the good side of the season despite it numerous challenges, is that as soon as their goods arrived they are sold
However, he reiterated that the CBN new police on cash withdrawal is affecting business.
“The journey from Kano State to Abuja with goods is N150,000 and the driver demand for the whole cash for road expenses, and also payment of revenue, purchasing of goods all required cash”, he stated.
He therefore appealed to CBN to revise the policy for the sake of business.
