Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has restated his commitment to enhance and provide full support to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in the state to ensure effective border management and optimal performance for improved peace.
The governor stated this on Friday when the Assistant Controller General Zone C, Sunday James in company of State Comptroller and some senior officers of NIS, paid a courtesy visit at Government House Maiduguri.
The governor, who was represented by the State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, said,” Borno State which stands on a strategic location is pivotal to engendering effective border security in the country as it borders three neighbouring countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon.”
The governor equally pledged to assist the NIS to host it proposed summit in Maiduguri for the north east region themed: “North East Border Security Summit”.
He advised that the summit should be held in one of the Northeastern state to properly proffer and devise a mechanism and border security solutions peculiar to the region.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Assistant Controller General, Nigerian Immigration Service Zone C, Sunday James, poured encomiums on the state Governor for what he describes as “untiring zeal of the Governor” to restore permanent peace in the state.
He added that, he was in the state to assess the operational vim of the personnel in the state.
Other dignitaries present at the meeting were the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Bukar Tijjani, state controller general, members of the state executive council among other top government functionaries.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of award to Governor Zulum in recognition of his efforts in ensuring people-driven policies.
