Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed on Thursday flagged off the Bauchi 2024 Sports Fiesta at Abubakar Tafawa Stadium Bauchi.
The sports loving governor told that his government will use sports to empower youth by identifying their talents, grooming them for long-term growth and development.
Gov.Mohammed, represented by the state deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, hailed the state Ministry of Youth Sports Development, organizers, of festival. He also thanked participants from the 20 local governments of the state.
Explaining the numerous benefits of the festival and its mission, the Governor reiterated the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship.
He stressed the need for fair play in developing disciplined individuals.
“The event will serve as a platform to foster social interaction and the development of skills and talents across various sports disciplines, similar to aspiring athletes that by holding the festival on a regular basis, Bauchi State and Nigeria will be able to recover their domestic and national sporting supremacy because it is from the grassroots that talents are discovered and then polished to become worldwide stars”, he said.
Hon. Mohammed Salis Gamawa, Bauchi State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, has already stated that sport draws adolescents away from a life of crime and poverty by providing employment and scholarships for bright youths both domestically and globally.
Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, praised Governor Bala for reviving the state’s athletic activities.
He also praised the ministry of sports and other sporting stakeholders for upgrading and facilitating athletic activities in Bauchi State.
He also told the athletes to make success of the sports fiesta.
