In a historic move, the Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, a local humanitarian organization in Maiduguri, brought together community leaders, repentant insurgents, and religious leaders for a one-day dialogue meeting on Monday.
This town hall meeting marks a significant step towards peace, reconciliation and reintegration in the region, bringing together community leaders and repentant insurgents in a shared quest for unity and development.

Executive Director and Founder of the Allamin Foundation, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges faced by repentant insurgents in the reintegration process.
She noted that the dialogue was a first-of-its-kind initiative to harness the concerns and aspirations of stakeholders towards achieving lasting peace and peaceful coexistence.

Islamic Scholar and Peace Mediator Sheikh Ali Mustapha Ibrahim delivered a lecture on Islamic doctrines and injunctions on peace, unity, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
The meeting aimed to gather opinions and views from residents of host communities and repentant insurgents to strengthen capacities and wills for transitional justice and reconciliation.

The stakeholders proffered solutions and recommendations, including increased security services in Maiduguri metropolis and its environs, monitoring of repentant insurgents’ activities, and social cohesion with the repentant deradicalized and reintegrated insurgents.
They also emphasized the need for forgiveness, endurance, patience, and social relationships for convenient livelihood and sustainability.
