The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reassured residents of Plateau State of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to their safety during the festive season.
Speaking at the 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA) held at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, Major General Abubakar highlighted the army’s proactive measures through Operation Golden Peace, a security initiative aimed at safeguarding lives, protecting harvests, and ensuring a peaceful festive season across Plateau State and beyond.
“Operation Golden Peace is a proactive security measure aimed at maintaining peace, preventing criminal activity, and ensuring the safety of our communities during the festive period,” the GOC explained.
He emphasized that the initiative is part of the army’s ongoing efforts to keep the region safe and foster a secure environment for residents.
Reflecting on the progress made over the year, Major General Abubakar praised the collaboration among security agencies and the strong support from local communities in Plateau State.
“The peace and security we enjoy today are the direct results of our collective efforts. We must continue to strengthen these partnerships to protect the gains we’ve made,” he said.
The GOC also underscored the significance of WASA, describing it as a platform for fostering unity, camaraderie, and cultural appreciation within the military and its host communities.
“This gathering is a testament to the spirit of togetherness and mutual support that defines us as a military family. It reflects the vibrant cultural diversity that binds us as one nation,” he emphasized.
In his remarks, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the Commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Town Planning, Barr. Peter Gai, commended the Nigerian Army for its tireless efforts in maintaining peace in the state.
He underscored the importance of this collaboration in ensuring Plateau remains a place of tranquility and opportunity.
“Plateau State is reclaiming its position as the ‘Home of Peace and Tourism.’ This progress is a result of the sacrifices of our security agencies. As a government, we will continue to provide unwavering support to sustain these achievements,” he noted.
The event culminated with cultural performances, talent displays, and the symbolic lighting of a bonfire, symbolizing unity and hope for the future. Awards were also presented to outstanding soldiers in recognition of their dedication and exemplary service throughout the year.
