The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has made a heartfelt appeal to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), to return to the party.
This call was made during an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) in Awka on Thursday, where the party reviewed its current state and charted a path forward.
According to the communique signed by Mr. Chidi Chidebe, Chairman of PDP in Anambra, “The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP.”
Chidebe added, “We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria.”
The PDP Anambra Chapter also expressed concerns about the efficacy of alliances with ideologically incompatible political formations, stating that such coalitions may not yield the desired success. Instead, the party urged the Anambra electorate to rally behind its candidates, Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr. Francis Okeke, in the upcoming elections.
“We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP and to come out en masse to vote for our candidates,” Chidebe said.
The party also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial electoral process.
Additionally, the PDP Anambra Chapter unanimously nominated Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra and urged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee to recognize and transmit the nomination to the national secretariat.
Chidebe commended the party leadership for a successful National Executive Committee meeting held on May 27 and expressed satisfaction with the template for resolving the party’s internal crisis.
