Chaos at the entrance gate of SDP Headquarters in Abuja
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is facing a major crisis after its National Working Committee (NWC) suspended National Chairman Shehu Gabam, National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson, and National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma over alleged gross financial misconduct.
The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba.
“The decision to suspend the National Chairman and other implicated NWC members is to allow for a thorough investigation. Our integrity as a political party must be upheld at all times,” Aiyenigba said.
The party has constituted an interim investigative panel to audit all financial records and recommend further disciplinary or legal actions.
However, the suspension was met with violence as thugs stormed the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, attacking party staff members and journalists.
The thugs, dressed in black attire, beat people mercilessly and denied access to the secretariat.
Security operatives eventually intervened to restore normalcy.

Gabam refuses to step down
Gabam has refused to accept the suspension, describing it as “fake” and claiming he remains the SDP national chairman.
“I remain SDP national chairman,” he said, adding that the incident is one of the attempts by people trying to destabilize the SDP.
The party’s Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Abubakar, has been directed to assume leadership pending the outcome of the investigations.
