A Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan has sentenced Kamilu Olona, the son of a landlord, to eight months imprisonment for stealing items belonging to his father’s tenants.
Olona pleaded guilty to the four-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The convict attributed his actions to desperation after his father’s death, which led to him dropping out of school in the UK and resorting to stealing.
“My father sent me to study in the United Kingdom, but as soon as he died, I could no longer finance my education and had to return to Nigeria. Subsequently, I could no longer afford anything and started stealing from my father’s tenants,” Olona said.
The court sentenced him to eight months imprisonment with an option of community service.
