Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the kidnapping of the Anambra State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The suspects, identified as Emeka Ede, Okwudili Aja, and Onyebuchi Aja, were apprehended during a raid operation conducted in conjunction with DSS operatives on Wednesday .
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.
Maj. Gen. Kangye said intelligence reports revealed that the suspects masterminded the kidnapping of the NDLEA Commander on June 12.
“Items recovered from them were assorted weapons and a large cache of ammunition as well as some illicit drugs,” Kangye said.
The recovered items are currently in the custody of troops, while the suspects are undergoing interrogation.
Kangye added that the troops had also made contact with terrorists in Owerri West and Ihiala Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Imo and Anambra States respectively, apprehending 21 suspected illicit drug dealers and recovering arms, ammunition, and explosives.
In a separate operation, troops acting on credible intelligence, nabbed two suspects at a Point of Sale (POS) belonging to an IPOB/ESN sponsor in Ihiala LGA of Anambra.
“We recovered eight mobile phones, transaction booklets, and the sum of N1.5 million from them,” Kangye said.
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogations .
