African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described the late former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, as a true Nigerian icon.
In a statement released in Abuja, the party’s spokesperson, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, paid tribute to Rufai’s remarkable life and legacy.
*A Legend of Nigerian Football*
Abdullahi said, “Rufai, fondly known as Dodo Mayana, was a true legend of Nigerian football. He is one of the finest goalkeepers to ever wear the green and white.”
He added that Rufai exemplified the brilliance, courage, and determination of the Nigerian spirit, both on and off the field.
According to Abdullahi, Rufai was more than just a player; he was a symbol of pride for the entire nation. “On the field, he was not just a player — he was a symbol of pride for the entire nation,” he said.
With every save, kick, and opportunity, Rufai represented Nigeria with unmatched passion, skill, and grace.
The ADC spokesperson noted that Rufai was a unifying force who brought Nigerians together across all divides.
“He was a unifier. In times when sports provided hope and brought Nigerians together across all divides, he stood as a beacon of excellence and dignity,” Abdullahi said.
Abdullahi extended the ADC’s deepest condolences to Rufai’s family, loved ones, the Nigerian football community, and all who were touched by his legacy.
He prayed that Rufai’s memory would continue to inspire future generations to strive, serve, and shine, just as he did.
