Enugu State Police Command has successfully dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication and maintenance workshop in Udi Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out by the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, resulted in the recovery of various firearms and repair tools.
According to the Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, “On June 30, at about 4 p.m., operatives raided and dismantled the workshop located in Amofia-Agu Affa community in Udi LGA, following credible intelligence and the confession of a suspect.”
The suspect, Ekene Okafor, a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, led operatives to the workshop, where a locally made gun was being serviced.
The police recovered several items, including: A locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two English-made double-barrel guns, eight single-barrel guns, live and expended cartridges, generator sets and various firearms repair tools
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for the breakthrough and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to combating illegal firearms proliferation.
Ndukwe said, “The command wants members of the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to continue providing credible information to the police.”
He said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing owner of the workshop.
