United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has paid tribute to Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, hailing his legacy as a defender of Africa and a strong supporter of the United Nations.
During a visit to Nigeria House in New York, Guterres signed the condolence register, expressing his heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Nigeria.
Guterres praised Buhari’s commitment to selfless service, peace, and stability across the African region.
He noted that Buhari was a great supporter of the United Nations and a strong voice for multilateralism, solidarity, and sustainable development.
A Stabilising Force in West Africa
The UN Chief highlighted Buhari’s crucial role in defending the interests of West Africa and affirming Nigeria’s leadership in the region.
He described Buhari as a leading personality who worked tirelessly to promote peace and stability in West Africa.
Guterres extended the UN’s condolences to Buhari’s family, the Nigerian government, and people.
He said the world would continue to remember Buhari as a true servant-leader whose legacy would inspire future generations .
