In a stunning display of talent, 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi from Yobe State, Nigeria, has been named the world’s best in English at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.
Joined by her 15-year-old schoolmate Ruqayya Fema from Nigeria Tulip International College, Mamudo, the duo outshone 20,000 participants from 69 countries in a prestigious English language and debate competition.
Their triumph has drawn heartfelt praise from Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, highlighting Nigeria’s rising global potential.

Governor Buni described the achievement as a “great honour” to Yobe and Nigeria, stating, “These are great feats that make us proud and justify the government’s investment in the education sector.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, by his Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, in Damaturu, Buni announced a grand reception to celebrate Nafisa and Ruqayya, both beneficiaries of his scholarship program supporting 890 students at their college and 40,000 others nationwide and abroad.
“My administration will continue to subsidize education to ensure every child in Yobe has the opportunity to go to school,” he pledged.
Atiku Abubakar lauded Nafisa’s success as a “powerful testament to the limitless potential of the Nigerian girl-child when provided with quality education and a supportive environment.”
He added, “Investing in the education of our girls is not just a matter of fairness; it is a strategic necessity for national transformation.
“Let us, as a community, commit to dismantling every barrier that prevents the girl-child from realizing her full potential.”
