Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has warned staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) against engaging in corrupt practices.
ICPC Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Mrs. Ekere Usiere, gave the warning during a quarterly anti-corruption sensitisation workshop for NDDC staff in Port Harcourt.
Warning on Corruption
Usiere stated that NDDC staff must distance themselves from corruption.
“NDDC staff must distance themselves from corruption, as anybody caught will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” she said.
She emphasized the importance of periodic meetings to sensitise staff against corrupt practices.
The workshop, themed ” _Infractions/Offences in Anti-Graft Laws; Preventive Measures,”_ aimed to prevent corrupt practices. Dr. Evans Peters of ICPC urged NDDC to strengthen its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit and implement a system to review corruption-prone processes.
Peters warned that staff engaging in corrupt practices like inflating contracts, making false statements, or frustrating investigations will be prosecuted.
“Anyone caught in corrupt practices could be sent to jail. The law does not condone ignorance,” he said.
NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku emphasized adopting measures to tackle corruption and entrench transparency.
“We want our staff to work with diligence and uprightness while carrying out their duties,” he advised.
