Kogi State Police Command has issued a firm warning to hoodlums to stay away from polling booths and collation centers during the by-election in Okura II State Constituency scheduled for Saturday.
In a statement released on Friday in Lokoja, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Ovye-Aya, emphasized that anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process would face severe consequences.
“Those caught violating the laws governing the by-election will be dealt with decisively,” Ovye-Aya declared.
He further cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that the police are prepared to maintain order.
“We will not tolerate any actions that threaten the peace currently enjoyed in the state,” he added.
The statement also highlighted the commitment of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, to ensuring a smooth and secure election.
“The command, in collaboration with other security agencies, is fully prepared to guarantee a peaceful and orderly by-election,” Ovye-Aya quoted Dantawaye as saying.
Dantawaye urged residents in the affected communities to cooperate with law enforcement to prevent interference by criminal elements.
“We call on the public to work with security operatives to safeguard the electoral process and ensure it remains free from disruptions,” he said.
