
Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio da Silva hosted Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka.
Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka met Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília on Monday, advocating for enhanced cultural connections between Nigeria and Brazil.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), this private visit coincided with President Bola Tinubu’s state visit, where he engaged in bilateral discussions with President da Silva.

Soyinka, a literary giant, gifted his translated work, Mito, Literatura e o Mundo Africano (Myth, Literature and the African World), to President da Silva, symbolizing a bridge between the two nations.
“Cultural diplomacy is a powerful instrument for mutual understanding and global collaboration,” Soyinka remarked, emphasizing the role of cultural exchange in strengthening ties.
The visit aligned with efforts to deepen relations between Nigeria, Africa’s largest Black nation, and Brazil, South America’s economic powerhouse. Soyinka also participated in cultural renaissancepeaceful events hosted by Brazilian communities, further advancing Afro-Brazilian cultural ties, as reported by NAN.
