Crime suspect in police handcuff
Niger State Police Command has apprehended two suspected assassins found with a locally fabricated pistol and a live cartridge in the Beji, Maikunkele area of Bosso Local Government.
The arrests were announced in a statement released on Saturday in Minna by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
According to Abiodun, on August 23 at approximately 12:45 a.m., a joint police and vigilante patrol team at the railway crossing in Beji intercepted the two suspects, aged 40 and 35, both residents of Beji.
“A thorough search uncovered a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and ₦13,000 in their possession,” Abiodun revealed.
During questioning, the suspects admitted they were hired by an individual named Dogo to assassinate a man near the railway crossing for a fee of ₦100,000.
“They confessed that Dogo had advanced them ₦13,000 as transport fare and they were en route to collect the full payment when apprehended,” Abiodun added.
Preliminary investigations suggest Dogo’s motive was linked to the intended victim marrying his ex-wife.
The suspects are currently detained at the Maikunkele Division for further investigation before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution. Efforts to capture Dogo have been intensified, the police confirmed.
In a separate operation, the command’s Anti-thuggery Squad arrested nine suspected thugs in Minna on August 26 between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Acting on credible intelligence, the squad raided Soje A, Soje B, and Kpakungu areas, recovering two suspected stolen solar batteries, five knives, cutlasses, and a digger.
“These suspects are under investigation at the SCID as part of our ongoing efforts to curb thuggery and related crimes in the state,” Abiodun stated.
