Approximately 3,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State have received critical humanitarian support through a partnership between the ECOWAS Peace Fund and UCARE Nigeria.
The initiative aims to alleviate the hardships faced by displaced individuals and their host communities.
UCARE Nigeria’s Communications Officer, Paul Uche, shared details of the intervention, expressing satisfaction with the organization’s efforts.
The aid package includes free medical services, treatment for common illnesses, installation of solar-powered lighting, and the construction of accessible, state-of-the-art toilet systems designed for persons with special needs.
Additionally, the program provided mosquito nets, mama kits for expectant mothers, and adolescent girl kits to promote dignity and well-being.
“We also installed a solar-powered borehole to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water,” Uche added.
The IDPs have expressed gratitude for the support, which is expected to significantly ease their challenges.
Uche emphasized that the collaboration between UCARE Nigeria and the ECOWAS Peace Fund is driven by a commitment to reduce suffering among IDPs and surrounding communities.
However, he noted that financial constraints limit their ability to reach all those in need.
Uche called on other organizations and compassionate individuals to step in and support the vulnerable IDP population, highlighting the need for broader intervention to address their ongoing challenges.
