
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has sworn in seventeen newly appointed Commissioners with a charge for them to remain loyal and accountable to the people.
Performing the ceremony at Government House on Monday, the governor also urged the new Commissioners to close ties to their communities and as well urged them to be open in all that they do to earn public confidence for the administration.
Governor Alia informed the commissioners that they were carefully selected from across the state to strengthen the administration to accomplish its development agenda.
While stressing that the government was in its second half of its first term, the Governor urged them to put in more efforts as according to him the journey ahead requires greater commitment and dedication.
The governor noted with emphasis that “the appointees were chosen because of their proven understanding of governance, transparency, and discipline. Much was expected from you”.
Governor Alia, who acknowledged the importance of the local communities, urged them to maintain strong links with their local communities and to serve serve as spokespersons on government programmes, and as well uphold confidentiality in state matters.
As he reminded them of the oath they had taken to protect the Nigerian Constitution and to place public interest above personal considerations, he also emphasised that his administration was people-centred and not driven by political patronage, insisting that his government was focused on policies that have direct bearing on the lives of ordinary citizens.
Governor Alia debunked the allegation that he intended to replace Dr Sam Odeh as Deputy governor ahead of 2027 and reaffirmed his confidence in Odeh and described him as a dependable and tested partner with all the qualities required for effective governance.
Responding on behalf of the new commissioners, Hon. Dennis Iyaighgba appreciated the governor for the trust reposed in them and assured that the appointees were prepared to add value to the administration by working with diligence, creativity, and integrity.
He assured also that their collective goal would be to reposition their ministries and deliver tangible results that would definitely improve the lives of the Benue people.
The new commissioners inaugurated include Dr Ortese Yanmar, Rev. Dr Fredrick Ikyaan, Michael Oglegba, Tiza Imojime, Alumo Orpin, Ugwu Odoh, Kunde Aondowase, Kwaghgba Amande, Joseph Ter Jir, James Dwem.
Others Ccmmissioners inaugurated were: Dr Ornguga Yangien, Theresa Odachi Ikwue, Dr Benjamin Ashaver, Dr Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, Dr Peter Oboh Egbodo, Dennis Iyaighgba, and Dr Paul Ejeh Ogwuche.
The ceremony was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, heads of parastatals as well family members of the new commissioners.
