Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal
Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has pledged to lead efforts to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, describing the movement as a “national consensus” to remove the current administration.
Speaking as a key figure in an opposition coalition, Tambuwal outlined a democratic strategy to end Tinubu’s tenure.
“I am fully involved in a process — democratically and lawfully — that will end, by the grace of God, in sending this government out of office,” Tambuwal declared, emphasizing the coalition’s mission.
He added, “With the help of God and Nigeria, we will send these people out of office.”
Tambuwal rejected claims that the coalition is a northern agenda, stating, “It is a national consensus. Is Peter Obi from Northern Nigeria? Is Aregbesola not from Osun State?”
He stressed the goal of achieving “a change of guards in Aso Rock through a constitutional democratic process on May 29th, 2027.”
Criticizing the Tinubu administration for failing to deliver democratic dividends, Tambuwal dismissed the notion of Tinubu’s invincibility, saying, “Every effort being made to make it as if he is invisible – that Bola Tinubu cannot be defeated — is rubbish. He can be defeated.”
He underscored that the coalition’s focus is on improving governance, stating, “It is not about Bola Tinubu. It is about the way he is running the country.”
The coalition, formed months ago, includes prominent figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Senate President David Mark, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissing the coalition’s efforts, Tambuwal affirmed their commitment to unseating Tinubu in 2027 through a united, nationwide push.
