In a swift response to a mass abduction, Edo State Police Command operatives successfully rescued 16 of 29 passengers kidnapped by suspected gunmen along the Benin-Auchi road on Friday evening.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the rescue on Saturday in Benin.
According to sources cited by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the assailants ambushed an 18-seater bus operated by New Edo Line Transport Company, along with two other vehicles, forcibly taking 29 passengers into nearby bushes near the Sobe axis.
A combined team of police, military, local vigilantes, and hunters promptly launched a bush-combing operation to locate the victims.
“We successfully rescued 16 passengers unharmed,” Yamu stated, adding, “The police are committed to sparing no effort in securing the release of the remaining victims.” (NAN)
