Troops have ramped up offensive operations across the country, neutralizing scores of terrorists, arresting 20 suspects, and rescuing kidnap victims in the last 24 hours, according to a reliable source at Army Headquarters.
The source, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), revealed that the military also seized a significant cache of arms, ammunition, motorcycles, and stolen petroleum products during coordinated operations in multiple regions.
In the Northeast, troops under Operation Hadin Kai thwarted attacks by ISWAP and Boko Haram elements in Banki, Damboa, and Biu areas of Borno State, killing several insurgents in the process.
Recovered from the encounters were 36 hand grenades, five rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), 700 rounds of ammunition, as well as terrorist uniforms and logistics supplies. Troops also intercepted 32 bicycles and a truck loaded with NPK fertilizer suspected to be used for making explosives.
In the North Central zone, operatives with Operation Enduring Peace rescued a kidnapped girl in Manchok, Kaduna State. Similarly, troops under Operation Whirl Stroke freed another victim in Benue State and recovered weapons and ammunition.
“Elsewhere, troops arrested kidnappers and armed robbers in Sokoto, Taraba, Kebbi, and Plateau states, while in Cross River, a suspected cultist was apprehended with a roasted human leg,” the source said.
He also confirmed that troops dismantled illegal oil refining sites in Rivers State and destroyed bunkering facilities in Cross River.
“In all, the operations conducted between Sept. 19 and 22 led to the recovery of 10 AK-47 rifles, one FN rifle, five RPG bombs, 36 hand grenades, 39 motorcycles, 32 bicycles, explosives, chemicals and vehicles,” the source disclosed.
The military affirmed that these operations would continue at full force to restrict the movement and influence of terrorists and criminal groups, while supporting national efforts to improve food security and restore peace.
