Kogi State Government has called for calm following reports of a possible terrorist plot targeting areas within the state and neighbouring Ondo.
In a statement issued Wednesday in Lokoja, Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, assured citizens that there is no need to panic, stressing that security agencies are already on top of the situation.
Fanwo confirmed that the government had received credible intelligence pointing to a planned attack, and said the development was a sign that the state’s security apparatus is functioning proactively.
> “Our possession of the intelligence report is a demonstration of the proactive work of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies in protecting Kogi residents from criminal elements,” he said.
He added that the intelligence itself was proof that the state’s security network is alert and capable of acting before any threat materializes.
> “We commend the DSS for their vigilance and for providing early intelligence capable of preventing such evil plans from being executed,” Fanwo stated.
He assured residents that the government is working hand-in-hand with the DSS, Nigerian Army, Police, and other security formations to ensure any attempted attack is neutralized before it poses any threat to life or property.
Fanwo emphasized that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has placed the safety of lives and property at the core of his administration’s agenda. As part of that commitment, he said security strategies across the state — particularly in border communities — have been reinforced and surveillance intensified.
He urged residents to remain alert but unafraid, encouraging them to continue their daily routines while keeping an eye out for suspicious activity.
> “The government will protect the people at all costs. We will not allow criminals or terror groups to disrupt the peace and progress we have built,” he said.
Fanwo concluded by reaffirming the state’s security status:
> “Kogi remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, and we intend to keep it that way.”
