Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has accused Governor Umo Eno of political persecution, targeting its members contrary to his promise to provide a level playing field for all the people when he defected from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in June last year .
The party stated that “while the governor preaches on thing, he does the opposite with so much impunity.”
Publicity Secretary of the party in Akwa Ibom State, Ewa Ekpo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Uyo.
Ekpo said “the governor had claimed he wanted to have one Akwa Ibom State regardless of partisan differences , yet he proceeded to threaten his appointees to resign from his administration if they would not defect with him and has since then persecuted anyone who refuses to defect to the APC with him,” he said.
He said the “latest act of hypocrisy and political persecution is the unlawfully inhumane directive as contained in today’s official memo from the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), announcing the dismissal of his own brother from Nsit Ubium Local Government Area in the person of Mr. Joe Ikpak and Comr. Felix Ekuri.
Ekpo quoted the governor as saying the sack was in “pursuant to his restructuring to “align the machinery of government towards the success of the Renewed Hope and the ARISE Agenda” because they attended the recently concluded National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
“This action only adds to the fact that Gov. Umo Eno is inhumanely persecuting the PDP in Akwa Ibom State and then turning around to deny it.
“How can the governor who preaches “Akwa Ibom United” sack Akwa Ibom people in his government for their partisan sympathies and affiliations?
“Not even the Sadducees and Pharisees of the biblical days were capable of such vicious hypocrisy. It takes a Pharaoh in Pharisees’ clothing to mete such inhumanity on fellow humanity with such impunity.
“Hence, we thank Umo Eno for letting our comrades go from his government of political captivity,” he said.
