Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani
Kaduna State has recorded zero incidents of violent conflict since 2023, a development the state government says has created a stable environment for accelerated progress across key sectors, including education, agriculture, skills development and enterprise growth.
The disclosure was made at the 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week held over the weekend in Kaduna, where Governor Uba Sani was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki.
Delivering the governor’s keynote address, Maiyaki attributed the achievement to the Kaduna Peace Model, a home-grown framework anchored on dialogue, community participation, early-warning mechanisms and intelligence-led security, complemented by inclusive governance.
According to him, the administration deliberately adopted peace as a development strategy, stressing that stability remains a prerequisite for social progress, investment and economic expansion.
“Peace is the foundation of development. By prioritising prevention, dialogue and community ownership, Kaduna has created the enabling environment for sustained growth,” the governor said in the address.
Uba Sani explained that the deployment of the Conflict Early Warning and Early Response System (CEWERS), with support from development partners, has strengthened the state’s capacity to detect and resolve tensions before they escalate, thereby boosting public confidence and investor trust.
He noted that improved security conditions have facilitated the reopening of schools, health facilities, markets and farmlands across the state.
According to the governor, over 300,000 out-of-school children have returned to classrooms, tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions have been reduced by 40 per cent, while technical, vocational and digital skills programmes for youths have been expanded.
In the agricultural sector, the governor said sustained peace has translated into higher productivity and improved rural livelihoods through increased budgetary allocations, fertiliser distribution across all local government areas and the development of agro-industrial infrastructure to enhance food security.
He added that job creation and support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) remain central to sustaining peace, with ongoing enterprise financing and skills acquisition initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment and social vulnerability.
The governor also described the media as a critical stakeholder in the peace and development architecture, calling on journalists to embrace conflict-sensitive reporting, counter misinformation and amplify narratives of reconciliation, progress and opportunity.
Earlier, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, AbdulGafar Alabelewe, said the Council conferred a Recognition Award for Exemplary Leadership on Governor Uba Sani in acknowledgement of his administration’s commitment to peacebuilding, inclusive governance and press freedom.
The Kaduna State Government reaffirmed its readiness to share its peace-driven development framework with other states, describing the Kaduna Peace Model as a practical blueprint for strengthening stability and accelerating development across Northern Nigeria.
