Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was aglow over the weekend as former Governor of the state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, played host to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the wedding Fatiha of his son, Sadiq Ali Modu Sheriff.
President Tinubu arrived in the ancient city to honour the Sheriff family on the joyous occasion and to commission major developmental projects executed by the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum. The visit turned Maiduguri into a hub of high-profile political activity, drawing leaders from across Nigeria and beyond.
The wedding Fatiha was held at the Maiduguri Central Mosque within the Shehu of Borno’s Palace, where Islamic rites were solemnly observed in line with tradition. Family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to witness the union, which blended spiritual depth with dignified celebration.

According to a statement signed by Ajid Saleh Ajid, Special Assistant on Media to Senator Sheriff, the ceremony attracted an impressive array of dignitaries.
No fewer than seven serving governors attended, including Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa and Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
The gathering also featured prominent national figures such as former Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo (SAN), alongside former and serving senators, ministers and past governors.

Adding an international flavour to the event were representatives of the President of Chad, including his Chief of Staff, the National Chairman of the ruling party in Chad, and two serving Chadian ministers, underscoring the strong cross-border ties between both nations.
For the Sheriff family, the occasion was both personal and historic. Beyond the celebration of marriage, it stood as a powerful symbol of unity, goodwill and mutual respect among Nigeria’s political leadership, with Maiduguri once again taking centre stage in national affairs.
