Super Eagles of Nigeria
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will round off 2025 ranked 38th in the world, holding firm in the latest FIFA rankings released on Monday — a steady finish that reflects a year of progress and resilience.
The position is unchanged from the November 19 update, when the Eagles climbed three places from 41st, underlining a late surge that lifted the team out of mid-year struggles. Just as important, Nigeria maintained its sixth-place standing on the African continent.
Although 2025 delivered mixed results on the pitch, the year ends on a positive note. The Super Eagles finished six places higher than where they started, having opened the year at 44th globally.
The journey was far from smooth. Nigeria moved up to 43rd in April, slipped back to 44th in July and fell further to 45th in September. October, however, marked a clear turning point as the Eagles surged to 41st — their biggest jump since February 2024 — riding on the momentum of their AFCON silver-medal finish.
That revival carried into November, when Nigeria climbed three more places to 38th, a ranking the team now holds heading into 2026.
On the African scene, Morocco remains the continent’s highest-ranked team at 11th in the world, followed by Senegal in 19th place. Algeria climbed to 34th globally, while Egypt dropped to 35th, placing fifth in Africa.
Spain sit atop the global rankings, ahead of Argentina and France. England occupy fourth place, with Brazil fifth, followed by Portugal and the Netherlands. Belgium, Germany and Croatia complete the world’s top 10.
Attention now shifts to the new year, with the next FIFA rankings scheduled for January 19, 2026 — one day after the AFCON final in Morocco — offering the Super Eagles another chance to build on their upward momentum.
