The Langtang North Local Government Council in Plateau State has distributed instructional materials to 160 schools across the area to enhance teaching and learning at the basic education level.
The materials were provided to 142 public primary schools, alongside selected private schools, as pupils resumed for the new academic term. Items distributed include number charts, weather charts, shapes and other instructional aids designed to improve classroom engagement and learning outcomes.
Speaking during the presentation, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Shalkur Haruna Mamdam, said the intervention followed observations that many public schools lacked basic teaching aids.
Mamdam noted that the exercise was part of a commitment by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, to improve the standard of basic education in the local government area.
“We noticed that some of these teaching aids are not readily available in public schools. The idea is to bring instructional materials directly into classrooms so that pupils can see, touch and experience learning first-hand, similar to what obtains in many private schools.
“We are here to deliver on a promise. Promise made, promise kept is the conviction that drives this administration. Although we intended to distribute the materials before resumption, doing so at this point remains timely and impactful,” he stated.
Receiving the materials, the Education Secretary of the Langtang North Local Government Education Authority, Mrs. Tabitha Wazhi, commended the council for prioritising education at the grassroots.
“This administration has shown uncommon commitment to the education sector, both in staff welfare and in making learning easier for pupils. These materials will go a long way in improving classroom delivery,” she said.
Some teachers also welcomed the intervention. A classroom teacher, Changcit Selchak, and a headmistress at the Government Science School, Zamko, Changcit Selchum, described the materials as timely and essential.
The council said the intervention was aimed at strengthening classroom instruction and improving learning outcomes across primary schools in the local government area.
