The just-ended year (2025) was a defining period for my journalism practice, particularly in my role as the Kaduna State correspondent for NATIONAL ACCORD Newspapers.
Developments within the media industry, combined with institutional strength and personal professional responsibilities, significantly shaped the activities and outputs on my beat throughout the year.
A major factor that influenced my work in 2025 was the established credibility and growing recognition of NATIONAL ACCORD Newspapers as a national media platform.
As the Kaduna State correspondent, I consciously worked to ensure that the newspaper’s presence and relevance were felt across the state.
This involved consistent coverage of governance, politics, policy implementation and socio-economic issues affecting Kaduna, while projecting the newspaper as a reliable source of information.
The growing acceptance of the medium enhanced access to key stakeholders, including government officials, party leaders and community leaders, thereby improving the quality and authority of reports filed from the state.
The digital visibility of NATIONAL ACCORD Newspapers also played a critical role in shaping my journalism activities in the year.
Within the year, online presence remained central to news consumption, and the paper’s accessibility on the internet ensured that stories filed from Kaduna reached national and international audiences.
Knowing that reports would be instantly available to readers across platforms heightened the sense of responsibility to uphold accuracy, balance and professionalism in every story. The ease with which readers could search and access National Accord online further strengthened the impact of field reporting from Kaduna State within the year.
Another defining factor was the speed of news production in a highly competitive media environment. The pressure to publish promptly in order to compete with other national dailies influenced daily operations on my beat so much that I always went the whole hog to file up-to-date reports. With the drive and passion, I was able to meet up with the targets and NATIONAL ACCORD was able to compete effectively with competitors.
We were able to achieve this with constant engagement with credible sources, timely identification of newsworthy events and swift filing of reports without sacrificing factual accuracy.
The ability of the medium to publish stories promptly also ensured that developments from Kaduna remained relevant in the national news space.
Editorial strength was equally instrumental in shaping my work throughout 2025.
The presence of qualified and experienced editors ensured that stories were thoroughly reviewed, edited and presented in line with professional standards. This strong editorial skills enhanced clarity, improved story structure and reinforced the credibility of the publication.
It also provided a safety net that encouraged reporters to operate confidently, knowing that their reports would be professionally handled before publication.
Beyond institutional factors, the competitive nature of journalism in 2025 demanded greater analytical depth and contextual reporting. With multiple outlets covering similar events, I was compelled to provide detailed, balanced and people-centred stories that reflected the realities on the ground in Kaduna State.
This approach did not only strengthen the newspaper’s identity in the state but also positioned National Accord as a serious national media outlet.
In summary, the activities of my journalism journey in 2025 were shaped by the credibility of NATIONAL ACCORD Newspapers, its strong digital presence, the demand for speed, robust editorial support and my responsibility as the Kaduna State correspondent to project the medium effectively.
These factors collectively improved the quality, reach and impact of reporting from Kaduna State.
It also reinforced the newspaper’s standing in Nigeria’s competitive media landscape in the just-ended year.
