Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, describing it as the foundation for meaningful democratic change in the country.
Obi made the appeal in a post shared on his X account on Thursday after a stop at Waru Wazobia in Abuja, where he interacted with residents and encouraged them to participate in the registration exercise.
According to him, the visit provided an opportunity to engage directly with members of the community, particularly young people and women, on the importance of obtaining their voter cards ahead of future elections.

Reflecting on the encounter, Obi wrote, “Yesterday, while passing through Waru Wazobia in Abuja, I made a chance stop to interact with our people. I seized the opportunity to encourage them, especially our youths and women, to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise.”
He stressed that the process of transforming the country begins long before ballots are cast.
“The power to change Nigeria does not begin on Election Day; it begins with voter registration. Registering to vote is not just a civic responsibility; it is an investment in the future we all desire,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor also urged Nigerians who have yet to register to do so without delay, while encouraging those who already possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to mobilise others.
“I urge every eligible Nigerian who has not yet registered to do so without delay. Those who already have their voter cards should encourage their family members, friends, neighbours, and colleagues to register as well,” Obi stated.
He further noted that national transformation requires active citizen participation rather than passive hope.
“A new Nigeria will not happen through wishful thinking. It will be built by citizens who participate, who believe, and who act. Let us continue to choose hope over despair, participation over apathy, and nation-building over division.”
Obi concluded the message with his familiar slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
