African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Borno State has strongly condemned what it described as a violent and premeditated attack on the inauguration of its Transition Committee, saying the incident was a direct assault on constitutional order and internal party democracy.
The party said the attack was targeted at the lawful inauguration of the ADC Borno State Transition Committee, an event meant to formally usher in its chairman and members, who are made up of leaders and key stakeholders of the ADC coalition in the state.
ADC also reaffirmed its “unshakable resolve” and total endorsement of the constitutionally constituted Borno State Transition Committee as well as the Membership Registration and Mobilization Committee, both chaired by the duly appointed Alhaji Ali Bukar Wurge.
The condemnation was made on Friday at a press briefing held at the ADC State Secretariat, Abbaganaram Junction, Maiduguri, by Alhaji Ali Bukar Wurge, who is also the Chairman of the State Transition, Registration and Mobilization Committee.
Addressing journalists, Wurge described the incident as a grave attack on democracy.
He said, “This was born from the blood and wreckage of a democracy attacked by those who claim to serve it. We unequivocally and furiously condemn the cowardly, premeditated political terrorism orchestrated by a desperate usurper and his criminal syndicate during the solemn inauguration of our Transitional Committee.”
He added that the violence went beyond protest, stressing that it was an organised attempt to undermine democratic order.
According to him, “This was not protest; it was orchestrated violence against democratic order. These thugs, obeying the orders of a political despot, descended upon a legitimate party function with barbaric savagery, destroying eight vehicles belonging to our members and vandalizing a police vehicle—an assault on the very symbol of state authority.”
Wurge further disclosed that no fewer than eleven people, including police officers, were injured during the attack.
He said, “They beat and maimed eleven innocent souls, including police officers who stood as shields of constitutional order, fulfilling their sacred duty to protect democratic assembly. This fascist violence mocks every principle of civilized politics. OUR HEARTS BLEED FOR THE INJURED.”
Expressing solidarity with the victims, he stated, “We extend our deepest solidarity to our eleven wounded patriots, party faithful who bled for democracy’s cause. To the police officers who suffered injury while defending our democratic rights, we owe an eternal debt. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Your wounds are our wounds. You did not deserve this barbarism.”
He continued, “We stand with you, your families, and your colleagues in the Nigeria Police Force. This attack on you is an attack on every law-abiding citizen. Justice will be served. We categorically reject the desperate fabrications of political miscreants attempting to varnish their violent desperation with lying rhetoric.”
Reaffirming the legality of the committee, Wurge said, “Our committees’ legitimacy is ironclad, established in all conformity with the ADC Constitution and Election Guidelines, ratified by the supreme authority of the National Working Committee (NWC). Any denial is not misinformation; it is seditious sabotage.”
He noted that the incident had strengthened the party’s resolve, adding, “This atrocity has crystallized our mission: the enemies of progress will burn democracy’s house to preserve their corrupt power. Our reorganization is no longer strategic; it is survival. We are accelerating the mobilization of patriots and strategic defectors from APC, PDP, LP, NNPP, PRP, and fortified ADC structures to forge an indestructible democratic force.”
Issuing a stern directive to party members, Wurge warned against actions capable of undermining unity.
He said, “DIRECTIVE TO ALL PARTY ACTORS: Cease immediately from any utterance or action that fractures our unity. The NWC-sanctioned agenda is our only path. The ADC Constitution is supreme law, not a menu for political dwarfs to pick from. No individual, however prominent, transcends institutional authority. NWC decisions are final and binding.”
Concluding, he declared that ADC in Borno would not be intimidated by violence, stating, “We are building an election machinery to defeat opposition, not negotiate with democratic vandals. Our revolutionary mandate: dismantle APC misgovernance and birth transformative governance through disciplined, unified, constitutional political action. We shall not be cowed by primitive violence. ADC Borno is unbreakable, unconquerable, and ready to reclaim our state from tyranny’s jaws.”
The ADC chairman also called for unity, peace and understanding among party members, while inviting interested Nigerians to join the party.
He noted that membership registration and mobilization were ongoing nationwide as part of efforts to build a broad coalition aimed at forming the next government in Nigeria.
