
Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of dust haze and sunshine across the country from Monday through Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet projected moderate dust haze over parts of Kebbi and Kano States in the northern region on Monday.
It stated that horizontal visibility of between two and five kilometres is expected in the affected areas, while other northern states will experience generally sunny but hazy conditions throughout the forecast period.
“For central region, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km is anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger states, while the rest of the states in the region should be under sunny and hazy skies throughout the forecast period,” the agency said.
“For southern region, sunny skies with a few patches of cloud are anticipated over the region with prospects of afternoon/evening thunderstorms with light rains over parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States,” it added.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, NiMet said slight dust haze is expected over parts of Kano and Kebbi States, while the remaining northern states are likely to remain sunny and hazy.
The agency also projected sunny and hazy skies across the central region, with possible isolated thunderstorms over parts of Plateau State during the afternoon and evening.
In the South, NiMet anticipated sunny skies with patches of cloud, alongside chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
For Wednesday, NiMet forecast sunny and hazy conditions across the northern and central regions.
In the southern part of the country, the agency said sunny skies with a few patches of cloud are expected, with possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
“Dust particles are in suspension; the public should take necessary precaution; People with asthmatic health conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather condition,” NiMet warned.
“Driving under rain should be with caution. Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it added.
