
Taraba State First Lady, Mrs. Agyin Kefas and the 17-year old victim, Miss Iwasen Terhemba,
Taraba State Governor, Mrs. Agyin Kefas, on Wednesday met with 17-year-old Miss Iwasen Terhemba, who was allegedly mutilated by Ramatu Abbas in Donga Local Government Area of the state on January 21, 2026.
Miss Terhemba was reportedly attacked following allegations that she rebuffed advances from the suspect’s husband.
Ramatu Abbas was subsequently arrested by the police, arraigned before a magistrate court, and remanded at the Wukari Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
Mrs. Kefas directed the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Mary Sinjen, to bring the victim to her office. It was gathered that the ministry has since been coordinating medical treatment, psychological care, and other social support services for Miss Terhemba.
An emotional Mrs. Kefas, upon meeting the teenager, announced that “Governor Agbu Kefas has approved the enrolment of Miss Iwasen Terhemba into the Taraba State scholarship scheme, alongside other support benefits aimed at securing her education, wellbeing, and future.”
She stressed that the intervention underscores the state government’s zero tolerance for violence against women and children, assuring that such acts would not be swept under the carpet and that justice would be pursued to its logical conclusion.
According to her, while ensuring justice remains paramount, the government is equally committed to restoring the dignity of victims by providing comprehensive care and guaranteeing them opportunities for a brighter future.
Mrs. Kefas reaffirmed the commitment of the Taraba State Government to protecting the vulnerable, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that compassion and accountability remain at the heart of governance and community life across the state.
