17-year-old girl, Miss Iwasen Terhemba
A Taraba woman, Mrs. Ramatu Abbas, from Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, who allegedly mutilated a teenage girl over her husband’s advances, has reportedly been divorced by her husband in line with Islamic rites.
The incident occurred on January 21, 2026, when Ramatu allegedly attacked a 17-year-old girl, Miss Iwasen Terhemba. Her husband, Abbas, was said to have divorced her on grounds that her actions brought disgrace, mistrust and disrepute to his family, damaged family integrity, and caused deep disharmony between him, his relatives and associates.
Ramatu was also remanded at the Wukari Correctional Centre on Friday following her arraignment before a Magistrate Court sitting in Donga. She is facing charges over the alleged mutilation of Iwasen Terhemba, who lives with her guardian in Donga town.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that Ramatu allegedly used a razor blade to inflict injuries on the teenager, accusing her of having an affair with her husband. The attack reportedly caused multiple cuts to the victim’s face, injuries said to be capable of resulting in permanent facial disfigurement.
A visit by our correspondent to the Government Referral Hospital, Donga, where the victim is receiving treatment, revealed that Iwasen is responding to medical care and recovering from the injuries sustained during the attack.
Speaking with our correspondent, Iwasen expressed gratitude to the wife of the Taraba State Governor, Mrs. Agyin Kefas; the chairman of Donga Local Government Council and his wife; the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Mary Sinjen; and the Nigeria Police for their swift intervention.
She further appealed to well-meaning Nigerians not only to support her through the ordeal but also to ensure that justice is served, stressing that the case should serve as a deterrent to others.
Meanwhile, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has ordered security agencies to immediately arrest anyone threatening or intimidating the victim’s guardian. The governor warned that any individual found interfering with the judicial process or intimidating the victim’s family would be arrested and prosecuted.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Mrs. Mary Sinjen, the governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to justice and the protection of vulnerable persons.
“His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has directed that no effort be spared in securing justice for the victim and in strengthening protective measures for vulnerable persons across the state. Those intimidating both the victim and her guardian should be arrested and made to face the law,” the statement read.
