Kano State Government has assured residents that the prolonged emirate tussle in the state will soon be resolved through peaceful and inclusive means.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, gave the assurance on Thursday while briefing journalists in Kano, saying the administration had already taken firm steps to restore calm and lasting stability.
Waiya said the state government was fully committed to ending the dispute in a manner that would strengthen unity and prevent further tension across the state.
According to him, the government is engaging all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the emirate issue does not continue to threaten peace or distract from effective governance.
He explained that the administration’s strategy is rooted in respect for the rule of law, the sanctity of traditional institutions, and the overall interest of the people of Kano State.
Speaking on the recent defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the commissioner described the development as one that would yield tangible benefits for the state.
He said Kano residents should anticipate increased dividends of democracy, noting that closer ties with the Federal Government would translate into more projects and developmental interventions.
“The defection opens more doors for Kano. With stronger collaboration with the Federal Government, we expect more support in critical sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, and social welfare,” Waiya said.
On the political future of the deputy governor, who did not defect alongside the governor, Waiya noted that the decision was a personal one.
He explained that it was left to the deputy governor to either continue working with the governor under the new political arrangement or pursue an alternative course.
Waiya stressed that the state government remains focused on governance, unity, and development, urging residents to stay calm and continue to support ongoing efforts to resolve outstanding challenges.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, peace, and inclusive governance, assuring that the welfare and interests of the people of Kano State would always remain the top priority. (NAN)
