Former governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Hon. Monica Yahaya Kaltho, has withdrawn from a court case challenging the party’s governorship primary process and declared her full support for the PDP governorship candidate, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.
Kaltho was among the aggrieved governorship aspirants who had approached the court to contest the outcome of the party’s primary, in which Pantami emerged as the sole candidate for affirmation.
Announcing her decision to discontinue the legal action, Kaltho said the move followed wide consultations and an appeal by the leader of the PDP in Gombe State, former Governor Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who urged her to put the interest of the party above every other consideration.
She explained that she accepted the advice in the spirit of reconciliation and party unity ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
“I acted after consultations and in respect of the appeal made by the Leader of the PDP in Gombe State, H.E. Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who advised me to withdraw from the legal action in the interest of party unity and progress.”
Kaltho described Dankwambo as “a father and a leader whose counsel I deeply value,” adding that the unity of the PDP and the development of Gombe State outweigh any personal ambition.
According to her, party members should remain focused on the shared objective of securing victory for the PDP in the 2027 governorship election and providing quality leadership for the people of the state.
“The unity of the PDP and the development of Gombe State are more important than personal ambition. Every member of the party should remain committed to the collective goal of ensuring PDP’s success in 2027 and delivering quality leadership to the people of Gombe State.”
Reacting to the development, the PDP governorship candidate, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, commended Kaltho for what he described as her maturity, patriotism and commitment to strengthening the party.
Pantami assured her that she remains a valued stakeholder in the PDP and pledged that all members would be carried along in efforts to reposition the party ahead of the next governorship election.
“She remains an important stakeholder in the journey ahead and everyone will be carried along in the collective effort to build a stronger PDP and a better Gombe State.”
In a further demonstration of appreciation, Pantami visited Kaltho at her residence, where he thanked her personally for withdrawing the suit and supporting the party’s collective interest.
He described her decision as a significant sacrifice made in the interest of the PDP and the people of Gombe State.
The development is expected to strengthen reconciliation efforts within the Gombe PDP as the party begins preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
