As part of efforts to support vulnerable households during the Ramadan and Lenten seasons, a former member of the House of Representatives and Kaduna State governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party, Hon. Shehu Bawa ABG, has distributed over 10,000 bags of rice and assorted grains to residents across the state.
The distribution exercise, which took place in kaduna, was aimed at providing relief to families grappling with economic hardship. Beneficiaries included widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities and low-income earners affected by the rising cost of living.
Speaking during the exercise, Bawa said the initiative was borne out of his desire to cushion the effects of hardship on the people, particularly during a period marked by fasting, prayer and reflection for both Muslims and Christians.
He noted that the current economic realities have placed immense pressure on households, making it increasingly difficult for many families to afford basic food items.
According to him, leaders must demonstrate empathy and practical commitment to the welfare of the people.
Bawa stressed that his intervention was not politically motivated but consistent with his longstanding culture of supporting the less privileged, even when not occupying any public office.
“It is part of me to always reach out and put smiles on the faces of the people,” he said.
The PDP aspirant maintained that social responsibility and compassion have always been hallmarks of the party, adding that the party remains committed to policies that prioritise the welfare and prosperity of citizens.
He called on the electorate to reflect deeply on the current state of affairs and make informed decisions in the forthcoming elections, urging them to support the PDP as a viable alternative capable of addressing the challenges facing the state.
Bawa further appealed to residents to mobilise at the grassroots to ensure broad participation in the electoral process, emphasizing that sustainable development can only be achieved through collective effort and responsible leadership.
Some beneficiaries who spoke during the distribution commended the former lawmaker for what they described as a timely intervention, noting that the food items would significantly ease the burden on their families during the fasting period.
As political activities gradually intensify in the state, observers say gestures such as this may shape public discourse ahead of the governorship race.
