Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi
Veteran Nollywood actress, Eucharia Anunobi, has revealed the emotional and personal struggles she endured while pursuing her acting career, including strong resistance from her father.
The actress made the revelation during a candid interview featured on the Instagram page of the The Honest Bunch Podcast, where she spoke about her difficult upbringing, her marriage, and the tragic loss of her son.
Anunobi disclosed that her father was deeply opposed to many of her life choices, including her education and her ambition to become an actress.
“My father said, ‘What is even a girl child? After all they’re going to get married.’
“He didn’t pay my school fees. He didn’t support me.”
According to the actress, the situation became so intense at one point that her father confined her to a room for six months in an attempt to stop her from pursuing her dreams.
Despite the restriction, she said she remained determined to follow her passion for acting.
“I used to jump the fence just to go for auditions.”
Her persistence eventually paid off. Anunobi recalled that winning her first acting award in London marked a turning point in her relationship with her father.
“That was the first time he hugged me. He told me he was proud of me and he blessed me.”
During the interview, the actress also corrected the podcast hosts on how she prefers to be addressed, emphasizing her academic and religious titles.
“If you want to introduce me, you introduce me properly. I remain Apostle Dr. Eucharia Anunobi. My doctorate degree is not honorarium. It is academic. I had worked. I had laboured. I am schooled. I’m a moving acting machine.”
The actress further opened up about the challenges she faced in her marriage, claiming she carried most of the financial responsibilities during that period.
“Charles, if you’re listening to this, I am not lying against you. I was the one paying rent, I was the one doing everything. Charles never brought one naira.”
She also spoke emotionally about the death of her only son, recounting what she described as a tragic medical mistake.
“Instead of the student doctor to do blood transfusion, the student doctor did blood extraction. I removed 3 pints of my son’s blood.”
Following the interview, many social media users have reacted to her revelations, particularly the story of how she climbed fences to attend auditions.
Several commenters said the story reflects the level of determination she had while pursuing her career in Nollywood despite the obstacles she faced early in life.
