Manchester United came from a quiet first half to beat Aston Villa 3–1 at Old Trafford on Sunday, with captain Bruno Fernandes setting a new club assist milestone in the process.
The first half was slow. United had most of the ball but couldn’t make much of it, while Villa looked lively on a few breaks.
Things changed after the restart.
In the 53rd minute, Casemiro got on the end of a corner from Fernandes to head United in front. That assist also pushed Fernandes past the previous single-season assist record for the club.
Villa drew level in the 64th minute when Ross Barkley finished from close range after United failed to clear a loose ball.
United regained control in the 71st minute when Matheus Cunha finished calmly inside the box to make it 2–1.
Substitute Benjamin Sesko wrapped things up in the 81st minute, scoring United’s third to seal the win.
Fans will probably start asking again whether he should be starting more games instead of coming off the bench.
Fernandes now has 100 career assists for Manchester United and set a new club single-season assist mark with 16 in the Premier League this season. After the match, he said he was delighted to help his teammates and proud of what the team achieved.
