
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House Gusau
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has directed all council members intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign from their positions.
The directive was issued on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the decision aligns with the Electoral Act and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The statement read, “Today, Governor Dauda Lawal presided over the 64th Executive Council Meeting, where critical issues were deliberated for the development of Zamfara State.”
It added that the governor, in his opening remarks, directed that all affected officials must step down before the deadline.
“All council members vying for political offices should resign on or before the 31st of March, 2026,” the statement said.
The governor also instructed the Secretary to the State Government to formally communicate the directive.
“The Secretary to the State Government is to issue a circular to all political appointees aspiring for elective offices, requiring them to resign from their appointments before the due date.”
Similarly, civil servants were not left out of the directive.
“The Head of Service is directed to issue the same to all civil servants who nurse the aspiration to contest an election,” the statement added.
Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance and continued service to the people of Zamfara State.
