FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has rejected the caretaker committee reportedly set up by allies of Kabiru Turaki within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as fraudulent.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Wike cautioned Nigerians against what he called a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and destabilize the party.
He stressed that the PDP remains intact with its recognized national secretariat located at Wadata House in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
According to him, the move by Turaki’s camp to constitute a caretaker committee is baseless and intended to create confusion.
Wike maintained that there is no leadership vacuum in the party, contrary to claims by the group.
He also argued that the Supreme Court ruling did not in any way create a gap in PDP leadership.
“You have refused to tell the public what is on ground, and you are coming out to say ‘we are setting up a caretaker committee’, how? And you are deceiving people that you want to sell form,” he said.
“I dare them, let me see an office you will name PDP national secretariat… If you are saying that you want to sell form, to whom? You will submit it where? Is that not fraud?” Wike queried.
“You have not set aside that judgement and you are now coming to deceive people by setting up a caretaker committee, and begin to sell forms. Is that not fraud? What is 419?” he added.
Wike further insisted that the PDP convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, attended by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), remains the party’s only legitimate convention and produced its current leadership.
