FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he has not endorsed any aspirant for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.
Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike stated that no endorsement would be made until a joint coalition of political actors convenes.
“I have not (endorsed anybody) and I cannot endorse somebody until the joint coalition meets,” he said.
He explained that the coalition cuts across the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a deliberate political strategy.
“We have loyalists in PDP, we have loyalists in APC… We have put ourselves together and it is a political strategy because we have somebody we will fight,” Wike added.
The former Rivers governor also dismissed any alliance with incumbent governor Siminalayi Fubara, stressing that both camps are operating separately.
“You know that we and Fubara are not working. So, as politicians, we must strategize, I don’t need to come and unveil our strategy to you,” he said.
Wike further accused Fubara of failing to honour an agreement reached with lawmakers in the presence of President Bola Tinubu, which had initially halted impeachment proceedings.
“The Assembly went and withdrew the impeachment before a president of a country… Now, having withdrawn the impeachment, you are now too smart on what you agreed before the president,” he stated.
The remarks come amid a lingering political dispute between Wike and Fubara, a crisis that previously led to impeachment attempts, presidential intervention, and a temporary suspension of democratic governance in Rivers State.
