Arsenal have finally been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The result confirmed the Gunners as champions with one game left, ending years of heartbreak after finishing second in each of the last three seasons.
Mikel Arteta’s side moved to the brink of the title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over relegated Burnley on Monday, stretching their lead over City to five points.
Arsenal also responded strongly to last month’s defeat against City by winning four consecutive league matches without conceding a goal.
Manchester City entered the clash at the Vitality Stadium needing victory to keep the title race alive, but Bournemouth frustrated the defending champions for most of the encounter.
The hosts took the lead in the 39th minute through teenage sensation Eli Junior Kroupi, whose superb finish marked his 13th Premier League goal of the season.
City struggled to find their rhythm despite fans chanting, “One more year, Guardiola,” amid reports that Pep Guardiola could leave the club at the end of the campaign after a decade in charge.
Although Erling Haaland rescued a late equaliser in stoppage time, the goal came too late to prevent Arsenal from sealing the title.
Bournemouth’s impressive unbeaten run now stretches to 17 league matches, with the club securing European football for the first time in its history.
The result also intensified the race for Champions League qualification, while Guardiola looks set to end his remarkable spell at City without winning the league for a second straight season.
