Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace integrity, competence, discipline and hard work as essential ingredients for achieving lasting success and driving national development.
Obi made the call on Sunday following his participation at the This Generation Conference hosted by Summit Bible Church in Abuja, where he interacted with young entrepreneurs, professionals, business leaders and members of the emerging generation.
In a post shared on his X account on Monday, the former Anambra State governor said the engagement focused on practical steps required to succeed in business and professional life despite prevailing economic challenges.
Reflecting on the discussions, Obi said he drew from his experiences in both business and public service to encourage participants to pursue excellence and value creation.
According to him, “sustainable success is built on integrity, competence, discipline, and a commitment to creating value for society.”
He stressed that meaningful national development can only be achieved when citizens contribute productively to economic growth rather than relying solely on consumption.
Obi noted that countries make progress when their people are innovative, productive and committed to excellence, urging young Nigerians to avoid shortcuts to success.
He said the younger generation must instead focus on education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and ethical leadership as pathways to personal and national advancement.
The former presidential candidate further emphasized that Nigeria’s future would largely depend on the quality of leadership and enterprise cultivated by today’s youths.
He stated, “We must move from a culture of sharing poverty to one of creating prosperity through production, innovation, and responsible governance.”
Obi expressed optimism about the country’s prospects, citing the enthusiasm, intelligence and determination displayed by participants at the conference.
He said their contributions during the engagement strengthened his conviction that the nation’s greatest asset remains its people.
According to him, “Nigeria’s greatest resource remains her people.”
Obi added that with commitment to hard work, integrity and purposeful leadership, Nigerians can collectively build a better future.
“Together, through hard work, integrity, and purposeful leadership, we can build the New Nigeria that is POssible,” he said.
